1. Who we are

Aapli Marathi Shala & Community is a volunteer-run, community non-profit. This policy explains what personal information we handle and why. We aim to collect only what we need to run the school and serve our community.

2. Information we collect

• Enrollment details— when you apply to enroll a child, we collect the student’s name, age/grade, campus and level preferences, and parent/guardian and emergency-contact names, phone numbers and email.
• Portal accounts — for parents, teachers, librarians and staff, we store a name, email and role. Sign-in may use email/password or Google/Microsoft; we receive your name and email from those providers but never your password.
• Content you add — messages, homework, documents, and images (such as directory logos/banners or a student photo) that authorized users upload.
• Cookies & local storage — small amounts of data to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (see the Cookies section below).

3. How we use your information

• To review and process enrollment applications and run our classes and events.
• To communicate with you about the Shala, your application, and community activities.
• To operate the parent/staff portal (attendance, announcements, fees, library, etc.).
• To keep our community safe and to improve our programs.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies/local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your choices. Optional (functional, analytics, marketing) categories are off unless you allow them — and we don’t use analytics or marketing cookies today. You can review or change your choices anytime via Cookie Preferences.

5. Where your data is stored

When our secure backend is enabled, accounts and records are stored with our hosting provider (Supabase), and uploaded images are kept in its file storage. Some features store data only in your own browser. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

6. Who can see it

Access is limited to the volunteers and staff who need it to run the school (for example, teachers see their batch; admins manage records). We share data with service providers only as needed to operate the site (such as our hosting and sign-in providers), and when required by law.

7. Children’s privacy

Information about children is provided by their parents or guardians as part of enrollment. We use it only to run our programs and keep children safe, and we limit who can see it.

8. Your choices & rights

• You can ask us to access, correct or delete your personal information.
• You can manage cookie choices anytime from the footer.
• You can ask that you or your child not appear in photos (see our Terms).

9. Retention

We keep information for as long as needed to run our programs and meet our record-keeping needs, then delete or anonymize it. You may ask us to remove your data sooner.
