More Than Just Tea, It’s a Movement!

Hello Marathi Shala Community,
 I’m excited to share my reflection on the very first day of our “चहा आणि गप्पा” initiative. Going into this, I honestly thought it would just be about serving tea and snacks . But it turned out to be something much bigger and more meaningful.

 It wasn’t just about chai. It wasn’t just about samosas. It was about bringing people together, starting real conversations, and creating something positive for our community.

Overwhelming community support

The first morning was full of energy. Families stopped by, parents talked with each other, kids laughed, and volunteers helped without hesitation. Seeing everyone gather around a simple cup of chai made me realize how powerful small ideas can be.

 There’s something special about talking face-to-face instead of just texting or scrolling on a phone. Over tea, conversations felt natural and meaningful. It really showed how strong and supportive our community is.

Serving a Greater Purpose

This initiative is not just about meeting up. It’s a youth-led effort to make a difference.

 All the profits from “चहा आणि गप्पा” go directly to support Marathi Shala’s educational programs and cultural activities. Knowing that every cup of tea helps support younger students and future events makes this experience even more rewarding.

 As the saying goes, “Little drops of water make a mighty ocean.” Even small contributions can lead to big change when we work together.

A Taste of Tradition

Of course, no gathering feels complete without food. Serving hot chai with crispy samosas gave the event a traditional touch that everyone enjoyed. A big thank you to all the Shala volunteers who helped make it possible.

 Let’s be honest — discussions are always better when there’s good food involved!

More Than Chai – Weekly Focused Conversations

One exciting part of this initiative is that every week we will focus on a different topic. We want our conversations to be meaningful and relevant to our lives. These topics will not and should not feel like an assignment, just come have some tea and speak whatever's on your mind. Our goal is to create a space where people of all ages can talk about real-world topics that matter — all while sharing tea and ideas.

Building a Platform for Youth Leadership

For us high school students, this is more than volunteering. It’s a chance to learn leadership, communication, responsibility, and teamwork.

 Through this initiative, we are learning how to:

• Organize community events
• Manage funds responsibly
• Speak confidently with adults and peers
• Work together as a team
• Contribute to a meaningful cause

 In the future, we hope to grow this into a formal student-led club that continues raising funds and creating positive impact in the community

We will be right outside the Marathi Shala classroom in

Delta College West Campus every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
